The aim of this report is to describe our class excursion to the city of Celje which we attended on 31st

August.We also visited the ancient Roman cemetery in Šentjakob and the cave Pekel. The main focus is to describe the ancient Roman cemetery, the city of Celje as well as the Pekel cave

Roman cemetery

We visited the ancient Roman cemetery in Šentjakob were we learned many interesting facts about the Roman culture and their burial rituals. We also learned about the deeds, the ancient Roman heroes accomplished and the culture of the common people and royalty.

The cave Pekel

We entered inside the cave Pekel in which we experienced total darkness when the lights were turned off. We also got the chance to observe very interesting karst phenomena such as dripstones stalagmites and stalactites.

The city of Celje

We drove to the city of Celje where we had some free time for sightseeing by ourselves, which was followed by a guided tour of the city there we received some interesting information about the city’s history. We also took a walk to the beautiful and architecturally impressive Celje castle, the home of the Celje counts. We saw the torturing chamber and one of the castles towers.

Conclusion

To sum up, on our excursion to Celje we expanded our knowledge of many interesting geographical facts and historical information about the city’s history and the burial rituals of the ancient Romans. I was particularly impressed by Celje’s rich history and architectural beauty.
